INDEX: Elliott State Forest History with Jerry Phillips & David Gould (1 hr., 35 min., 35 sec.) This is the history of the Elliott State Forest as told by the Elliott's two foremost historians, Jerry Phillips and David Gould. It has been prepared as the opening "distance learning" video for the 2021 Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) F251 Forest Recreation class by Dr. Bob Zybach, Oregon Websites & Watersheds Project, Inc. (ORWW), and McKenzie Peters, NW Maps Co. This program was videotaped on January 23, 2021 at Jerry's residence and features recreation of a 30-slide presentation on Elliott history he gave to the Coos District of the Oregon Department of Forestry in 2019. All of the slides were taken directly from his comprehensive 1996 history of the Elliott, "Caulked Boots & Cheese Sandwiches." David's family settled in the heart of present-day Elliott in the 1880s and have lived nearby ever since. Their extensive collection of maps, photographs, and diaries related to Elliott history stretch back to the 1880s, are largely available online through ORWW, and were developed into a book, "The Goulds of Elkhorn" -- which is also available online (link below).
