INDEX TO VIDEO (47 min., 11 sec.) This "virtual" field trip is based on detailed on-site oral history interviews with Jerry Phillips and David Gould in 2017. This route was successfully followed by the Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) 2018 and 2019 spring term F251 Forest Recreation classes. Due to coronavirus restrictions the field trips for the 2020 F251 class were videotaped and these files are also being used for the 2021 class for the same reason -- "social distancing" and "distance learning." The 2020 Tenmile Lakes field trip is a slightly different route than that taken by the 2018 and 2019 F251 students. Guides are Jerry Phillips and David Gould and the trip begins at the site of the old Elkside Lumber Co., which has been transformed into a County Park. From there we follow the old CCC route to the isolated School Land Bay parcel and then enter the Elliott by way of Benson Ridge Road. The remainder of the field trip visits a number of cabin sites claimed by Gould family members in the early 1900s, followed by a stop at Big Saddle and finish at Jerry Phillips Reserve. These "virtual" field trips are hosted by Dr. Bob Zybach and videotaped by McKenzie Peters, NW Maps Co.
