In the Library’s files
What the creator sent that he has not published himself — described so a reader knows it exists, and not published.
Two different things sit behind this series. One is the 375-file project site the creator has published for years, which the rest of these pages describe item by item. The other is his working folder — drafts, correspondence, scans, photographs and a very large video — which he sent to the Library and has not published anywhere. This page is about the second.
The Library’s rule for unpublished working files is the same in every series: describe them at the level of the folder, so that a reader knows what exists and can ask; publish nothing out of them until the creator has said which parts may be opened. Nothing on this page is a quotation from an unpublished file, and nothing links into one.
The folders
Counted on 2026-09-04 : 676 files , 9.52 GB.
| Folder | Files | Size | What is in it |
|---|---|---|---|
| (root) | 5 | 8.10 GB | A handful of large loose files at the top of the Drive folder, dominated by one 8.5 GB video file (an interview/oral history recording) plus a large conference slide deck and a screenshot. |
| 2023_Rendezvous | 159 | 630.5 MB | Planning, handouts, itineraries, guidebooks, and photos for the 2023 Jedediah Smith commemorative rendezvous event. |
| 2023_Archives | 158 | 347.5 MB | Historical archive scans and reference material gathered for the 2023 rendezvous research. |
| References | 69 | 235.6 MB | Reference documents and correspondence used in Jedediah Smith / 1828 Umpqua massacre research. |
| Reports copy | 15 | 94.9 MB | A backup copy of research reports. |
| Massacre Site | 57 | 94.5 MB | Research and site-survey material about the 1828 Umpqua massacre location, including a memorial-planning subfolder. |
| 1828_Umpqua_Memorial | 109 | 28.8 MB | This folder's subfolder names (Historical_Markers, Maps, Photos, Reports, References, 2023_Guidebooks, JSS_2023_Rendezvous, icons) match the live orww.org site's structure closely; this is the material that corresponds to what the public can already see on the website, plus one small Video subfolder we could not confirm is linked from a live page. |
| Fort_Umpqua-Photos | 39 | 10.8 MB | Photographs related to the historical Fort Umpqua site. |
| JSS | 19 | 4.42 MB | Jedediah Smith Society research and presentation material. |
| Jedediah_Smith_2023 | 39 | 3.17 MB | A 2023 working snapshot of Jedediah Smith research subfolders. |
| Molter | 2 | 1.67 MB | A small set of reference files (named for a historical contact/source). |
| Umpqua_Memorial | 2 | 200.4 KB | A couple of small reference files about the Umpqua memorial. |
What describing these properly will take
- A complete folder walk. Until then the counts above are a floor and the Library says so rather than rounding them up into a total.
- A decision, with the creator, about the folder he has named for the site. Its contents are exactly the material this Library does not publish, and no part of it will be opened without that conversation — and, where the material bears on the Kelawatset village or the graves, without consultation with the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians.
- Renaming. Several files in the upload have whole web addresses for names, colons and slashes included. They cannot be served as they stand.
- A home for the 2024 video. At 8.5 GB it is larger than everything else in this series put together. The Library would link it from the creator’s own storage rather than host it; that is what the earlier description of this series said, and it is still true.
What is published instead
Everything else in this series. The creator’s own project site carries 375 files across 36 folders, and the Library has described all of them: 11 of his writings printed page by page, 41 sources on the reference shelf, 9 maps, 246 photographs registered in 15 sets, and its own chronology, people and places built on top.
